The FIVB has recognized Larong Volleyball sa Pilipina, Inc. as the official governing body of volleyball in the Philippines. Simultaneously, they suspended the Philippine Volleyball Federation.
The move means that LVPI now has the authority to organize international competitions in the Philippines and to form and enter national teams into international competition.
A change in recognition of an international federation is exceedingly rare in sports – more frequently, leadership is simply replaced within an existing federation.
The two federations have been disputing control of the sport since 2015 – with the LVPI organizing the team that played in the Southeast Asian Games, hosted the 2015 Asian U-23 Championship, and sanctioned last year’s Club World Championships that were hosted in the Philippines.
