Bulgarian volleyball player Spas Bayrev has appealed the sanction given to him for a failed doping test, according to the Bulgarian Antidoping Centre.
Bayrev failed a doping test earlier this year, testing positive for marijuana after a February 22nd match for his club Levski Sofia. Bayrev confessed to smoking marijuana, and in several interviews given to the media, said that he would accept whatever suspension was given to him.
While the exact duration of the suspension given out by the Disciplinary Committee of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee has not been announced, the Bulgarian Antidoping Centre confirms that he has appealed his suspension. He will be placed on the public list of suspended athletes at the conclusion of that appeal.
Bayrev, a 6’7″ opposite, had his contract terminated by his team after failing the test – having just been anointed by the general manager of that club as the face of the Franchise.
Bayrev played with Bulgaria’s B National Team last year in the European Volleyball Leagueand at the Hubert Wagner Memorial Tournament.
